Some weddings are special because of the day itself, and some are special because of the people. Ava and Joe's wedding was both.

On August 18, 2023, Ava and Joe celebrated their marriage at the beautiful Venue3Two in Kentwood, Michigan. Their love story began in high school, and getting to document the next chapter of their journey meant so much to me on a personal level.

I actually met Ava years before I ever photographed weddings. We worked together when I was just beginning my photography journey, and Joe would often stop by to visit her during her shifts. I remember joking with them that one day I'd be the one photographing their wedding. At the time, it was just a fun comment—but years later, after they got engaged, they reached out with my very first wedding inquiry. It's still one of those full-circle moments I'll never forget.

From the moment the day began, everything flowed so naturally. Ava and Joe were incredibly relaxed, surrounded by family and friends who made every part of the celebration feel joyful and genuine. It was a privilege to capture all of the laughter, happy tears, and unforgettable moments that made their wedding uniquely theirs.

As the evening came to a close, we were treated to the most incredible golden hour. The warm light paired perfectly with the beautiful grounds at Venue3Two, creating some of my favorite portraits I've ever taken. One of those images has even been featured on Venue3Two's homepage—a milestone that still feels surreal.

Looking back, I'm so grateful that my very first wedding was with a couple I had known for years. Ava and Joe placed their trust in me during one of the biggest moments of their lives, and I'll always be thankful for the opportunity to tell their story through my lens.
