Kayla & Phil | A Joyful Wedding at The Casnovia Barn

Kayla and Phil were such a joy to work with. Funny enough, I had already spent a full wedding day with them nine months earlier when Phil’s brother, Gabe, got married. It was so much fun getting to see them again, this time for their own wedding day. Kayla was seriously one of the most relaxed and chill brides ever, and it was so much fun tagging along with her from the beginning of the day through the entire celebration. Phil was the man and was so trusting when it came to the photos, which made working with both of them so easy.

The day started at The Casnovia Barn before we headed to St. Robert of Newminster Catholic Church in Ada, Michigan, for the ceremony. Afterward, I got to take a little trip on the party bus with everyone as we headed back to the barn to continue the celebration. This was only my second time photographing a wedding inside a Catholic church, and shooting alongside my good friend and second shooter, Kenna Finn, we were able to work around all of the church’s rules and capture the ceremony almost perfectly. One interesting fact is that you can’t stand in the center aisle, so we had to plan ahead, improvise, and make the most of the angles we were given.

Once we made it back to The Casnovia Barn, the portraits turned out beautifully. The venue has such a clean, bright, and modern look, and the natural light gave the entire day such a fresh feel. We may have made it outside a little late for golden-hour photos, but they ended up being so moody and perfect. One of the only specific photos Kayla requested was one of her sharing a cigarette with her husband, and I’m so glad we were able to make it happen. Overall, it was such a pleasure getting to capture Kayla and Phil’s wedding, and I had the best time tagging along for their celebration.
