Kristen & Bill | A Dreamy Summer Wedding in Ann Arbor & Dexter

I first connected with Kristen and Bill after they reached out through Instagram. It is always such a compliment when someone discovers your work online and decides to trust you with such an important part of their wedding day. From our very first call, Kristen and Bill had this wonderful, trusting energy, and I immediately knew I wanted to work with them.

Their plans were a little different from a traditional wedding day, but in the best and most creative way. We structured their coverage around completing all of their wedding portraits before the ceremony, giving us about a two-hour window to explore three locations throughout Ann Arbor and Dexter on a beautiful summer afternoon.

We began at Matthaei Botanical Gardens, which was an absolute dream with the greenery and glass panels that let in so much natural light. Shortly after we started photographing inside, however, we learned that we were not allowed to shoot in that particular area. We squeezed in as many photos as we could before heading outside, where we continued exploring the gardens and finished the first portion of their portraits.

Our next stop was the Big House. Bill had managed to get us access to the field of the largest stadium in North America—a place where he grew up attending games and even playing on the field with his family as a child. It felt only right that it became part of their wedding story. Our 30 minutes on the field flew by, but we had plenty of time to get creative, have fun, and capture portraits that felt completely unique to them.

We ended the afternoon at their venue in Dexter. We initially worked with the architecture of the building, but I was immediately drawn to the open field on the property. The light, movement, and natural setting came together perfectly, creating portraits that still remain some of my favorites to date—so dreamy.

Kristen and Bill were truly a joy to work with. They trusted me to be creative, embraced every part of the experience, and made the entire afternoon feel easy and fun. I am so grateful they found my work and allowed me to document this part of their wedding story.
